"You got one-way tickets on a one-way track..."

Hope is a grand old word. Without it I wouldn't give the human race half a chance.

Hope grows each time it is crushed; when hope actually dies (and this does happen sometimes), there are no words to describe the depths and the agonies of that ruin.

Hope is no mere placebo, neither merely a "shot in the arm"; it cannot be labeled and dismissed as "feelgood". To hope, the phrases "pep talk" and "positive thinking" are an insult. It ain't vitamins!

Hope is bigger and grander and more everything than all that!

It is something far more settled, not transient, deep-seated, unshakeable, permanent. If it ain't any of these words, it ain't hope - it's any of those other words - feelgood, pep talk, positive thinking, mere vitamins, placebo, shot-in-the-arm...........

Do you hope there can be a better life? If you do, you hope good; certainly there can.

I'm reminded of The Shawshank Redemption. I'm not so sure if any other film hopes quite as much as this one does!

And then I'm always reminded of this song by Kathy Mattea. Even before I saw the video, every time I heard the song, it kind of blew a fresh breeze of clean, life-giving air into my life. When I finally saw the video, I was stunned speechless because it was every bit the way I'd HOPED it to be.

There can be a new life. There can be irreversible changes - for the better. There can be...miracles! There can be a chance not to ever look back again!! There can be a new you or me!!! There can!!!! There can!!!!! There can!!!!!! THAT - is hope. Anything less is just anything less, NOT hope.

**********************************************************************************
For once, I'm not going to talk about the song, just let it play. I am not going to say anything about the music, no analysis, no background, no memories, no nothing. Just enjoy the song.....and hope!

Well there's a blue moon hangin' in a small town sky
Nobody's listenin' to the band tonight
Nobody feels like dancin' in this sad cafe
Oh, but you and me baby we got somethin' to live for
One more step and we'll be out that door
I don't know where we're goin' but we're already on our way

The train is leavin' and it won't come back
We got one-way tickets on a one-way track
Nobody's gonna get their hands on the plans we made
And nobody's gonna rain on our parade

Well there's a red light blinking on an empty street
Church bells ringing in the dog day heat
The more we try to change things, the more they stay the same
But there ain't no tellin' just what we'll find
Out past the city limit sign
There's a voice out there and I heard it callin' our name

The train is leavin' and it won't come back
We got one-way tickets on a one-way track
Nobody's gonna get their hands on the plans we made
And nobody's gonna rain on our parade

Well there ain't nobody
Don't need nobody
Couldn't be nobody
Don't see nobody
Nobody's gonna rain on our parade

The train is leavin' and it won't come back
We got one-way tickets on a one-way track
Nobody's gonna get their hands on the plans we made
And nobody's gonna rain on our parade
The train is leavin' and it won't come back
One-way ticket on a one-way track...
Nobody's gonna rain on our parade...
